Strengthening Marinette Schools
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Marinette School District residents will vote on a facilities referendum not to exceed $68 million.
Our schools are a source of immense pride in our community and have served us well, but facility challenges at our middle school and high school make it difficult for all students to engage in 21st-century learning and maintain normal operations amid heating system failures, inoperable windows, communication system failures, and more.
An approved facilities referendum would provide the funds needed for targeted investments at the middle school and high school campuses that will:

Modernize existing academic spaces and create new learning environments for students;

Enhance safety and security and address accessibility challenges; and

Replace aging infrastructure, mechanical systems, and equipment.
An approved referendum would have a tax impact of $0.47 per $1,000 of equalized property value. This would increase the tax bill by about $7.83 per month (or $94 per year) on a $200,000 home in the Marinette School District.
Each component of this proposal addresses a crucial aspect of our needs assessment and aligns with the feedback we have received from our community. By acting now, we can address these issues, help our schools better serve future generations of Marines, reduce operational expenses, and avoid higher costs to complete this work later.
How Did We Get Here?
The School Board and administration have been actively engaged in a multi-year effort to address facility needs at the middle school and high school. This process has included comprehensive assessments of the district’s schools and grounds, exploration of multiple project options, and soliciting feedback from district families and residents.
Following the unsuccessful referendum in April 2025, we engaged with community members, and their input has directly shaped the proposal on the November ballot.
Specifically, a communitywide survey earlier this year asked participants about multiple project options. Respondents' leading choice was a $68 million capital referendum with a corresponding tax impact of $0.47 per $1,000 of property value.
What Are MSD’s Project Plans?
An approved facilities referendum will allow the Marinette School District to move forward with a series of capital projects.
Marinette Middle School

Replace the three-story 1961 building and the Tech Ed/Art wing built in 1921 with two additions to provide modern spaces for career and technical education, art, music, special education, and a commons area.

Remodel classrooms to create spaces for small- and large-group collaboration.

Replace playground equipment.
Marinette High School

Remodel career and technical education, music, science spaces, and the auditorium to meet curriculum and career pathways needs.

Replace remaining sections of the roofing system.
Middle School & High School

Update and replace major building HVAC systems, including adding air conditioning to spaces without it.

Replace outdated security systems to better monitor and control visitor access and improve student safety.

Update some classrooms, including new flooring, ceilings, walls, and lighting.

Renovate science labs, locker rooms, and restrooms to improve safety and meet ADA requirements.

Replace exterior windows and doors to improve efficiency and security.

Replace maintenance and storage buildings.

Replace bleachers.
